Our Editorial Mission

Family Benefits Calculator aims to provide clear, accurate and helpful information for parents. Our editorial goal is to make complex topics — pregnancy, child health, family benefits and nutrition — understandable without being misleading, and useful without overstating what a general tool can tell you.

What We Write About

Our content covers four main topics: pregnancy due date calculation, child growth, child benefits (covering the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia), and child nutrition. For each topic, we provide a working calculator alongside supporting guides. Articles are written to explain the topic in plain English and help readers understand what the numbers mean.

Sources and Research

Our guides are based on widely accepted reference materials, including:

  • WHO child growth standards and reference data
  • Standard obstetric due date calculation methods (Naegele's rule)
  • General dietary reference values and public health guidelines
  • Official government sources for benefit programmes (IRS, HMRC, CRA, Services Australia/Centrelink)

We do not cite individual academic studies or claim clinical authority. Our content is for general information only.

Freshness and Verification Policy

We aim to ensure all content is accurate at the time of publication. For time-sensitive topics — benefit rates, tax credit amounts, income thresholds, payment dates and claim rules — we verify facts exclusively from official government and tax authority sources (IRS, GOV.UK/HMRC, Canada Revenue Agency, Services Australia) before publishing or refreshing any page.

We do not publish child benefit rates or tax credit amounts based on memory or secondary sources. Every volatile page carries a "last verified" date and identifies the source family used.

Review Cadence

  • Monthly: child-benefit country pages, calculator rates, payment-dates pages, tax credit amount pages, income threshold pages
  • Every 6–8 weeks: budgeting pages, claims and documents pages, major FAQ pages
  • Every 3–6 months: pregnancy pages, child growth pages, nutrition pages, glossary pages, About and this Editorial Policy

Accuracy and Corrections

If you notice an error or outdated information, please contact us via the contact page and we will review it. Corrections are made promptly on volatile financial and benefit-rate pages — typically within 48 hours of a confirmed rate change.

Tone and Language

We write for parents, not medical professionals. Our style is:

  • Plain English — minimal jargon, clear explanations
  • Non-alarmist — we avoid language that causes unnecessary worry
  • Honest about limitations — we are clear about what our tools cannot do
  • Respectful — we assume readers are capable adults seeking information

Independence and Conflicts of Interest

Family Benefits Calculator is an independent site. We do not accept sponsored content, paid reviews or advertiser influence on our editorial decisions. We do not have affiliate arrangements for medical products, supplements or financial products. Our goal is to be useful to readers, not to any commercial partner.

Disclaimers

Every calculator page and health guide includes a disclaimer noting that results are estimates for general information only and are not a substitute for professional advice. We believe this transparency is important for responsible use of our tools.

Feedback and Updates

We welcome feedback on our content. If something is unclear, inaccurate or could be more helpful, please use the contact form. We review editorial feedback regularly.
