How to Estimate Family Support Payments

Knowing what child benefit payments to expect helps with family budgeting. This guide explains how to estimate your monthly and annual entitlement from Poland's 800+ programme.

The Basic Calculation

The 800+ calculation is straightforward because it does not depend on income:

Monthly benefit = Number of children under 18 × 800 PLN

Annual benefit = Monthly benefit × 12

For example:

  • One child: 800 PLN/month → 9,600 PLN/year
  • Two children: 1,600 PLN/month → 19,200 PLN/year
  • Three children: 2,400 PLN/month → 28,800 PLN/year

Adjusting for Age

If any of your children will turn 18 during the year, the calculation changes partway through. For a child turning 18 in, say, September, you would receive the benefit for January through August (8 months) for that child, and not for September through December (4 months).

Including the "Dobry Start" Supplement

Families with school-age children can also apply separately for the Dobry Start (Good Start) programme, which pays a one-time annual 300 PLN per child to help with school costs. This is applied for separately each year, usually in July or August, and paid in September at the start of the school year.

Adding Dobry Start:

  • One school-age child: 800 PLN/month + 300 PLN/year = 9,900 PLN/year
  • Two school-age children: 1,600 PLN/month + 600 PLN/year = 19,800 PLN/year

Why the Estimate May Differ From What You Receive

Several factors can cause the actual payment to differ from the estimate:

  • Start date: If you apply mid-year, you will not receive a full year's payments.
  • Child turning 18: Payments stop in the month the child turns 18.
  • Administrative delays: Payments sometimes begin one or two months after application approval.
  • Bank or payment issues: Incorrect bank details can delay initial payments.
